When preparing the trip we tried to learn the cyrillic characters, but without guidance and context it was not easy. Here in Russia it is different. We know approximately 80-90% of the alphabet and can now decipher words on first grade level. It helps if you understand the meaning of the word. Otherwise it is still hard.
