Easy ride to Warsaw. Picturesque historic district. Meeting with the old hands of the group.
Auf der Fahrt besuchen wir das Schloß Nieborów zwischen Lodz und Warschau.
On our ride to Warsaw we visit Castle Nieborów somewhere between Lodz and Warsaw.
In Warschau checken wir schnell im Hotel ein und laufen dann zur malerischen Altstadt, um das tolle Wetter zu nutzen. Die wurde im zweiten Weltkrieg komplett zerstört und nach dem Krieg wieder neu aufgebaut. Bereits 1980 (nur zwei Jahre nach Veröffentlichung der ersten Liste überhaupt) wurde sie zum UNESCO-Welterbe.
Direkt neben unserem Hotel ist ein Geschäft mit Uhren von Orient – zum Glück habe ich die interessanten Modelle alle schon, sonst hätte sich die Reisekasse etwas verkleinert.
In der Bar des Hotels treffen wir zufällig auf Klaus und Manfred, die beiden Oldies der Truppe. Beide sind über 80, aber reiseerfahren und top fit. Manfred ist Besitzer eines Mitsubishi Pajero aus den 90igern, mit dem er schon auf allen Kontinenten war. Er wohnt zwar seit mehr als 50 Jahren in Groß Gerau, aber ist auch geborener Dortmunder – die Welt ist klein. Die beiden berichteten von einem zufälligen Treffen auf einer ihrer letzten Reisen mit der legendären Heidi Hetzer in Usbekistan oder Kirgisien (Kirgistan oder Kirgisistan sind übrigens auch korrekt), wo sie mal wieder Probleme mit ihrem Auto hatte.
We do an express check-in at the hotel and rush to the historic old town. It was completely destroyed during World War II and rebuilt after the war. In 1980 it became UNESCO World Heritage – only two years after the first list was published.
I spotted a shop with Orient watches in direct neighborhood to our Hotel. Fortunately they had no pieces I am interested in.
We met Klaus and Manfred in the hotel bar, the old hands of the group. They are both in their eighties, but very experienced. Manfred is owner of a Mitsubishi Pajero from the nineties with which he visited all continents so far. He lives since more than fifty years near Frankfurt in Groß Gerau but is born in Dortmund, our home town! It is a small world. Manfred and Klaus told us that they met the legendary Heidi Hetzer somewhere in Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan on their last trip, where she had trouble with the car – again.
